Having a happy hound in your home is a must. Keeping your dog happy is not just important for them, but for you and your family dynamic. After all, dogs that are not satisfied can present a whole host of behavioral problems. These can include chewing, biting and ‘messing’ around the home. These are things that all dog owners strive to avoid.
As dog breeds vary, there can be some confusion on what makes a happy and healthy dog. But, we have taken the top dog breeds in the US and given you a rundown on tips you can use to keep your hound, happy.
Boxer
A boxer dog is happiest when they are being exercised. They need to go on long walks to ensure that they are fulfilled. As the boxer breed is athletic, exercising this dog is imperative to their emotional well-being. Keeping a boxer happy means long long walks and runs. But, due to their playful nature they need to be played with and interacted with on a regular basis too. They are the perfect companion for busy households and for children that love to play.
Labrador
The Labrador has long been a firm favorite in US households. Their loyal natures make them the perfect dog, especially for those that have children in the home. Despite their gentle nature, Labrador dogs are very athletic and can be incredibly lively. They also enjoy water, so making sure that your dog is close to a pool or pond can be the perfect way to keep them content.
Beagle
Beagles, by their very nature, are companion dogs. Despite their small size, they do need to be regularly walked. Long walks are not essential for beagles. However, they do enjoy interaction. Keeping your beagle happy means not spending too much time away from them. So, if you work long hours, it may be wise to get a dog-sitter in to help out with the day to day doggy care. Beagles suffer from boredom when they have no companions. This means that if they are left alone they may start chewing and act in a way that is destructive. But, you also need to make sure that you have time to pet them and play with them.
Dachshund
Dachshund dogs are small and mighty. They don’t need long walks or masses of exercise. They only have short legs, after all! But, they are curious as a breed and like to explore. Having plenty of hiding places is a must. Dachshunds are old hunting dogs. As such, they crave making tunnels, and they love to be outside. Keeping plenty of toys in the garden is a must. But, do be warned, they can be very territorial. As such, they can be prone to jealousy if they have to share their toys. Make sure that you have a happy dachshund by allotting them their own particular toys.
Plott Hound
Plott hounds are large, cumbersome dogs. But, despite their sheer size they are faithful hounds. They love to play, above all else. As they are intelligent, varied games are required to ensure the overall happiness of a plott hound. They need acres of land to roam around freely in. They are not dogs that take well to being on the leash, due to the hunting nature.
